Foreign Ministry spokesperson today (Sept. 26) responded to media questions regarding artificial intelligence.
The spokesperson addressed the US side's reported use of the term "Super Intelligence" to replace "Artificial Intelligence" when presenting outcomes from the China-US meeting.
The spokesperson noted that during the meeting between the leaders of China and the United States, both sides held in-depth discussions on artificial intelligence. Regarding the wording in question, the Chinese side said it respects the US terminology. The spokesperson added that artificial intelligence technology continues to evolve, and that all parties may draw on the latest developments, strengthen exchanges, conduct further in-depth discussions, and seek consensus.
From Sept. 23 to 25 (local time), Chinese President Xi Jinping made a state visit to the United States. During the visit, the two leaders exchanged in-depth views on China-US efforts to build a constructive strategic relationship of stability and on major international and regional issues. They reached consensus on eight outcomes, including the following: both sides agreed to establish a China-US Artificial Intelligence Dialogue to exchange views on risks and benefits related to artificial intelligence.
The next round of dialogue will be held in November this year. The two sides also agreed to establish communication channels regarding artificial intelligence-related incidents.
