Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky paused for about 15 seconds and broke into a smile before replying, "This is my answer", when a Sky News reporter asked at a press conference in Brussels on Friday (Oct. 16) whether US President Donald Trump was using him as a "scapegoat" for domestic problems in the United States, including high diesel prices ahead of the midterm elections.
The US and Russian leaders spoke by phone on Oct. 9 and agreed on Russian diesel supplies to the United States and global markets. In a phone interview with Axios, Zelensky called the decision "not fair and not honest" and said he felt betrayed, writing on social media that allowing Russia to sell petroleum products "is an investment in the war". Trump, speaking at the White House the following day, said: "I think it's time for Ukraine to get a new president", adding: "I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal."
