French President Emmanuel Macron commented on Oct. 16 on the recent US decision to ease sanctions on Russian diesel trade, saying the move sends a signal of division between the United States and the European Union.
Speaking to reporters in Brussels after an EU summit, Macron said the US easing of Russian diesel sanctions was a negative signal and a source of division and mistrust. He argued the move would not work and would only fuel distrust. Macron added that he would try to persuade the US leader to adopt measures to bring down fuel prices.
Macron also said Europe is working to help Ukraine strengthen its self-defence capabilities through satellite imagery and early-warning systems, which he said Ukraine urgently needs at present.
