The rebuilt Huanggang Port officially opened on Oct. 12, introducing a new "co-location" arrangement and a "Collaborative Inspection and Joint Clearance" model. Under the new system, travellers queue once and present their documents once, completing both Shenzhen and Hong Kong immigration procedures in as fast as 20 seconds — a major reduction from the previous half-hour process. As the only 24-hour passenger land crossing between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, the port recorded 79,500 passenger trips on its first day, with smooth and orderly flows.
How do residents feel about the new port? We hit the streets to find out. Most interviewees said they had not yet used it, but many were open to trying it, expecting it to be "a lot more convenient." Some, who already travel to Shenzhen frequently, said it would give them even more incentive to go. Others noted it "sounds like an attractive option" if they return to Hong Kong in the future. Interviewees shared their usual crossings — Shenzhen Bay, Futian via High Speed Rail, Lok Ma Chau, Lo Wu — for shopping, massages, dining, meeting friends, and even business procurement. While some looked forward to faster clearance, others remained most concerned about immigration queues. On the new model, most said they would "definitely try it" and "can't wait to try it out." Here's what they have to say.
