The overall voter turnout for Hong Kong's 2023 District Council Ordinary Election was revealed Monday (Dec. 11) morning. A total of 1,193,193 voters in the geographical constituencies cast their ballots, registering a 27.54% turnout.
The District Council geographical constituency election wrapped up at 24:00 after a polling system failure that occurred at around 20:00 on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the voting for the District Committees constituencies of Hong Kong's 2023 District Council Ordinary Election ended at 14:30 as scheduled after 2,454 out of 2,532 registered electors voted amid a turnout rate of 96.92%.
The seventh-term District Councils would hold office from Jan 1, 2024 to Dec 31, 2027.

According to the new voter turnout rate on the official website of the Election, as of 11:30 am, the cumulative number of voters in geographical constituencies was 398,930, with a cumulative turnout rate of 9.21%.
Polling stations in various districts of Hong Kong opened punctually at 8:30 a.m. Many members of the public enthusiastically voted at the polling stations this morning, with queues of people appearing at individual polling stations at one time.

For the District Committee constituencies, the turnout rate was 60.62 percent, with 1,535 electors having cast their ballots.

Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu and his wife Janet Lee Lam Lai-sim cast their votes at Raimondi College at 9:15 am.
Speaking to the media after casting his vote, he said: "The voting process was fast and smooth. I also saw other residents voting at the polling station and our polling station colleagues were very professional and passionate."
Lee added that DC Members elected in the election after the improvement of the district governance system would be in line with the overall interests of Hong Kong.
In the first hour of polling, the cumulative number of voters in geographical constituencies was 135,255, with a cumulative turnout rate of 3.12%, official data showed.
For the District Committee constituencies, the turnout rate was 32.46 percent, with 822 electors having cast their ballots.

The 2023 District Council Ordinary Election officially kicked off on Sunday (Dec. 10) at 8:30 am.
The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC), Mr Justice David Lok, chaired the second meeting of the Crisis Management Committee (CMC) this morning to closely monitor the conduct of the District Council Ordinary Election (DCOE) in real-time.
171 candidates are competing for 88 seats in 44 geographical constituencies, and the polling hours are from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm. More than 600 polling stations were set up throughout the city for about 4.33 million eligible voters to cast their votes.
