DC Election | EAC Chairman chairs second meeting of Crisis Management Committee

The Chairman of the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC), Mr Justice David Lok, chaired the second meeting of the Crisis Management Committee (CMC) this morning (December 10) to closely monitor the conduct of the District Council Ordinary Election (DCOE) in real-time.

During the meeting, the EAC was briefed by representatives of the relevant government departments, including the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) on the latest intelligence of security risks, the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) on the ballot paper delivery process with the assistance of the HKPF and the latest preparation status of the polling stations. To further enhance the security of the safekeeping of the ballot papers, the printed ballot papers, which were transported to various police stations for proper storage preceding the polling day, are delivered by police officers and electoral staff in the early morning to the polling stations for use. Mr Justice Lok was pleased to learn that all polling stations had opened on time and the polling staff was all ready to perform their duties to serve the electors.

There will be over 600 District Council geographical constituency ordinary polling stations in the 18 Districts across the territory, 18 District Committees constituency polling stations and 24 dedicated polling stations for the election.

Mr Justice Lok pointed out that the CMC will be closely monitoring the situation regarding the conduct of the election and will handle situations in which the election is affected by different incidents. It will continue to maintain close ties with the Emergency Monitoring and Support Centre under the Security Bureau and relevant bureaux/departments. The EAC will strive to ensure that the election will be smooth, orderly, and efficiently conducted in an open, honest, and fair manner as in the past.

In addition, the REO has set up the Central Command Centre (CCC) at its office in Kowloonbay International Trade and Exhibition Centre which commenced its operation at 7 am this morning. The CCC closely monitors the overall situation on the polling day, and provides central command and helpdesk/support services to ensure the smooth conduct of the election.
