Abducted Chinese actor Wang Xing expected to return from Thailand today
The Royal Thai Police Inspector General said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News that the preliminary investigation has confirmed that Chinese actor Wang Xing is a victim of human trafficking and that he is expected to return to China on Jan. 10.
Inspector General said that according to the results of the investigation, Wang Xing received a job offer to come to Thailand, take a vehicle arranged by the inviting party from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, on the way to take photos and landmarks and pass them on to relatives in China.
Wang Xing said he didn't realize he might have been cheated until he crossed the river into the Burmese countryside and found a very basic environment with no recreational facilities.
According to the timeline released by the Thai Immigration Department on January 7, Wang Xing entered Thailand at 3:16 a.m. local time on Jan. 3, left Suvarnabhumi Airport at 3:40 a.m., arrived at Changwat Chai Nat at around 7:00 a.m., passed through Changwat Kamphaeng Phet at around 9:00 a.m., and arrived at Mae Sot district at around 10:00 a.m., and was then lost at around 11:00 a.m. The police did not find Wang Xing passing through the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge, which is located on the Thai-Myanmar border, after investigations showed that he had changed cars in Mae Sot.
The spokesman said that after receiving China's request for help, the Thai side used surveillance video and phone records to track Wang Xing's location.
He reminded that Chinese visitors to Thailand are to be wary of offers to work in neighboring countries, especially third countries that are close by via Thailand, to avoid falling into the hands of fraudsters.
"We believe there is a need for greater international cooperation and joint publicity and education to prevent people from unknowingly becoming victims of human trafficking. We will hold an emergency meeting next week to discuss how to prevent similar incidents, such as putting in place measures to prevent fraudsters from traveling through Thailand to third countries."
The Chinese Embassy in Thailand said that according to the Thai side's report, the Chinese citizen surnamed Wang was successfully rescued in the afternoon of Jan.7, local time.
The Chinese Embassy in Thailand expresses its gratitude to the Thai government and other relevant parties for their efforts and fruitful work in this regard.
