Exclusive | Sustainable innovation & cross-promoting events: Insights from Cemone Chua of MITEC in Malaysia
This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. The Malaysia-China Summit 2024 was held at the International Trade and Exhibition Center (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur from Dec. 17 to Dec. 19, with more than 16,000 visitors and 259 trade exhibitors.
MITEC, renowned for its grand exhibitions, has piqued curiosity regarding its environmental stewardship practice,s given its expansive 45,000 square meters of exhibition space. Furthermore, the venue's technological advancements have become a subject of interest, guiding the way forward in event management and sustainability. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) is Hong Kong's major convention and exhibition venue. Will there be a cross-boundary collaboration?
We interviewed Cemone Chua, the Head of Marketing and Sales of the MITEC, who shared insights into the center's commitment to environmental conservation and technological innovation.
She pointed out that MITEC is actively fostering environmental protection and sustainability through various initiatives, including reducing plastic waste by employing bamboo packaging, promoting the reuse of coffee grounds, and partnering with local suppliers for sustainable catering.
Their upcoming plans involve implementing a circular economy model. In terms of technology, MITEC has embraced innovative solutions such as GBI-certified LED screens, energy-efficient lighting with motion sensors, rainwater harvesting systems, and a CO2 monitoring system to enhance efficiency and ensure a healthy environment, according to her.
She said that MITEC and HKCEC, leaders in the business events industry, are poised to collaborate for mutual growth and revealed the plans, including cross-promoting events and implementing rotating event initiatives to catalyze the industry in both regions through strategic partnerships.
