Chris Sun: 'Those who can adapt to life in HK under Top Talent Pass Scheme are truly talented'

In a recent interview on the program, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun emphasized the need for talent as Hong Kong strives to recover from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sun highlighted the government's Top Talent Pass Scheme, which aims to attract highly skilled and well-educated individuals with high-paying jobs to develop their careers in Hong Kong.

Sun acknowledged that Hong Kong's high cost of living might challenge some, but he expressed confidence that those who adapt will thrive. "If they can adapt to the cost of living, they are undoubtedly talented individuals. If not, they can choose to leave," he remarked, underscoring the competitive nature of Hong Kong's job market.

Sun discussed his vision for enhancing support through medical collaboration regarding elderly care policies. He highlighted the importance of gathering more data to address hidden elderly populations earlier, including those who may be socially isolated. Sun pledged to focus on these issues in the remainder of his term.

John Lee visits HK exhibition area at CIIE

The 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) opened in Shanghai on Nov. 5. The Chief Executive, John Lee, led a delegation to Shanghai to attend the opening ceremony of the Expo and Hongqiao International Economic Forum.

He visited and supported Hong Kong enterprises at their booths in the Hong Kong exhibition area in the afternoon.

Accompanied by the Financial Secretary, Paul Chan, the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Algernon Yau, and the Chairman of the Trade Development Council, Peter K N Lam, Lee was briefed by the staff of the booths of the Hong Kong enterprises on their products and chatted with them.

Lee also took group photos with Yin Zonghua, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR and other attendees.

GBA Entrepreneurs Forum 2024 | Two-way flow of cross-boundary health care in GBA

The "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Forum 2024", co-organized by Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), Shenzhen Finance Institute, the CUHK Business School, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance, is held in the Grand Ballroom of Conrad Hong Kong on Nov. 6.

The forum focuses on Hong Kong's unique role as a bridge between the motherland and the world, covering topics about emerging industries such as financial services, artificial intelligence and high-end manufacturing, green economy, and digital assets.

Wong outlines the background of the development of GBA and related policies included in the recent Policy Address delivered by Chief Executive John Lee.

In terms of the development of the healthcare sector in the GBA, Leung shares his insights into the recent cross-boundary healthcare trend. Accompanied by the northbound consumption trend, the past few years have witnessed the trend of cross-boundary health care service, which he regards as an important part and indispensable example of national education.

Typhoon Yinxing nears HK, causing uncertainties in Harbour swimming race

With Tropical Cyclone Yinxing approaching, the Hong Kong Observatory issued a No. 1 alert signal, and the New World Harbour Race 2024, which will be held this Sunday (Nov. 10), may be affected.

The organizer said on social media platforms on Nov. 7 that to safeguard the safety of swimmers, if typhoon signal No. 1 or above is still hoisted at 6 am on the day of the competition, or if there is any situation such as a red or black rainstorm warning signal, the competition will be canceled at that time.

According to the Hong Kong China Swimming Association, the competition will be canceled if typhoon signal No. 1 or above is still hoisted at 6:00 a.m. on the day of the competition, a red or black rainstorm warning signal is hoisted, a red tide is detected at the competition venue, or there is any unforeseen emergency that makes it unfit to conduct the sea swimming competition.
