GBA Entrepreneurs Forum 2024 | Two-way flow of cross-boundary health care in GBA
The "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Forum 2024", co-organized by Our Hong Kong Foundation (OHKF), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), Shenzhen Finance Institude, the CUHK Business School, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance, is held in the Grand Ballroom of Conrad Hong Kong today (Nov. 6).
The forum focuses on Hong Kong's unique role as a bridge between the motherland and the world, covering topics about emerging industries such as financial services, artificial intelligence and high-end manufacturing, green economy, and digital assets.
In the dialogue session after the keynote address, Dr. Stephan Wong, Head of the Chief Executive's Policy Unit of the HKSAR Government, hosts the dialogue with Antony Leung, Group Chairman of Nan Fung Group, Group Chairman & Co-Founder of New Frontier Group and one of the keynote speakers Mr. Marcus SPURRELL, CEO of International Business of DMALL.
First of all, Wong outlines the background of the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and related policies included in the recent Policy Address delivered by Chief Executive John Lee.
In terms of the development of the healthcare sector in the GBA, Leung shares his insights into the recent cross-boundary healthcare trend. Accompanied by the northbound consumption trend, the past few years have witnessed the trend of cross-boundary health care service, which he regards as an important part and indispensable example of national education.
He specifies the two-way flow of health care trend that some patients from Hong Kong enjoy health care services in the mainland, particularly in hospitals near the ports in Shenzhen, which helps them save waiting time. Some retirees from Hong Kong also go to other GBA cities in the mainland for health care services. Meanwhile, some patients from the mainland seek second opinions from doctors in Hong Kong. They also come to Hong Kong for some medicine that is available here.
In this context, he emphasizes the importance of the corresponding development of the insurance system, which enables people to benefit from cross-boundary healthcare services more easily.
He also highlights the necessity of health data resources, which he thinks as something of a challenging task. For example, it will be more efficient if doctors in Hong Kong can refer to the result of the CT scan that a patient has conducted in the mainland when diagnosing him/her. Besides, the development of bilingual and even multi-lingual medical reports assisted by AI is also a trend that cannot be ignored.
