In the early hours of June 13 (Beijing Time), India's Ministry of Civil Aviation announced the conclusion of rescue operations at the crash site of an Air India plane in Gujarat. Authorities confirmed that the tragic accident claimed at least 265 lives, with only one survivor among the 242 people onboard.
The sole survivor, a passenger seated in 11A, was seen walking out of the crash site with injuries to his chest and face. In a video circulating online, he recalled hearing a loud explosion just 30 seconds after takeoff, which was immediately followed by the crash.
According to Reuters, Tata Sons, the parent company of Air India, has pledged compensation of 10 million Indian rupees (approximately HK$915,000) to the family of each victim. The company also committed to covering medical expenses for the injured and assisting in rebuilding the damaged medical college struck by the plane.
The Boeing 787-8 aircraft, operating as Air India flight AI171, was carrying 242 passengers and crew. It was scheduled to fly from Ahmedabad to London but crashed shortly after takeoff into a residential area near Ahmedabad airport on June 12, local time.
