The nation saw a surge in domestic trips on Friday (Jan. 31) as most people continued to travel to tourist attractions and visit their families on the 18th day of the 40-day Spring Festival.
Around 11.8 million railway trips are expected to be made on Friday nationwide, and authorities have arranged an additional 545 trains to cater to the growing demand.
As of Thursday, the total number of passenger trips made by train had surpassed 200 million during the Spring Festival travel rush, which began on January 14.
The holiday marks the world's largest human migration, each year.
The first panda-themed special train of the Year of the Snake was launched on Friday morning.
It features cultural heritage experiences, like skilled craftsmen aboard to showcase Yi ethnic hand-painted lacquer art, paper cutting, and other traditional crafts to passengers.
The train - departing from the home of giant pandas in Chengdu - passes through various scenic spots along the route before it arrives at the "space city" Xichang.
Authorities called on travelers to remain alert as travel disruptions are likely to happen in northwest and northeast China due to another round of rain and snow.
