In response to the Lunar New Year, there will be a series of festive activities in HK, including the float parade on the first day of the Lunar New Year, the fireworks display on the second day, the Che Kung Festival in Sha Tin, and the Lunar New Year horse racing on the third day. The police, the Transport Department, and the Marine Department announced related special transport arrangements, road closure measures, and maritime safety precautions yesterday (Jan. 27).
Senior police officer Ho Chun-hin stated that there will be no extension of service hours at the boundary during this year's Spring Festival, as the float parade on the first day and the fireworks display on the second day are expected to conclude around 9 PM. It is believed that tourists will have enough time to travel back and forth to the mainland, and temporary bus stops will be set up to facilitate easier access to the 24-hour boundary crossing at Huanggang Port and Shenzhen Bay Port.
The Director of Immigration, Benson Kwok, anticipates that during this year's Golden Week of the Lunar New Year (from Jan. 28 to Feb. 4), approximately 8.67 million people will pass through various sea, land, and air control points entering and exiting Hong Kong.
Starting at 3:30 PM tomorrow, phased road closures and diversions will be implemented in Tsim Sha Tsui to accommodate the Internationak Chinese New Year Parade to be held at 8 PM. Roads affected include Canton Road, Haiphong Road, and Nathan Road and a section of Salisbury Road between Chatham Road South and the Star Ferry Pier. The roads will reopen around 11:45 PM.
During the road closures, taxi stands, public minibus stops, roadside parking spaces, and private parking lots on the affected roads will be temporarily unavailable. MTR services, including the Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line, South Island Line, and East Rail Line, will be enhanced according to passenger demand. Additionally, the short-distance cross-boundary bus service from Jordan to Huanggang Port will cease operations from around 3 PM.
To accommodate the fireworks display at Victoria Harbour on the second day at 8 PM, phased road closures and diversions will also be implemented around Central, Wan Chai, and Eastern District on Hong Kong Island, as well as Tsim Sha Tsui and the West Kowloon Cultural District in Kowloon, starting from about 5 PM that day.
The police also anticipate a large number of citizens will visit the Che Kung Temple and the Che Kung Festival Fair during the Lunar New Year period, and they will implement a "one-way pedestrian flow system" at MTR Tai Wai Station and the area around the Che Kung Temple based on crowd conditions.
Additionally, the Hospital Authority has strengthened general outpatient services to meet the public's medical needs during the Lunar New Year holiday and to alleviate pressure on emergency services. From January 29 to 31, 18 general outpatient clinics will provide public holiday services, and patients can make appointments through the telephone booking system or the "HA Go" mobile application.
