New regulations for licensed billiard halls: Age restrictions and dress code changes
To encourage greater youth participation in billiards and support the development of the local billiards scene, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced today (Jan. 24) that it will relax restrictions for licensed billiard halls.
The minimum age for entry will be reduced from 16 to 8 years old, and youth will be allowed to enter from 11 pm to 7 am, instead of the current hours of 8 pm to 10 am. Additionally, individuals wearing school uniforms will now be permitted to enter licensed billiard halls. Applications for these changes will be accepted starting Feb. 25.
In response to feedback aimed at promoting local billiards, the government established a working group in February last year to explore suitable measures. Following discussions, the LCSD will implement these relaxations for compliant licensed billiard halls following the relevant provisions of the Places of Amusement Regulation (Cap. 132, section 92B). Upon receiving applications, the LCSD will conduct a review considering factors such as the operational status of the billiard hall, the surrounding environment, and the facilities and activities within the venue. The LCSD will also review the effectiveness of these measures in due course.
