A Ta Kung Pao journalist visited the public toilets outside Tsim Sha Tsui Ferry Pier's plaza and observed a long queue outside the women's restroom. Gu, a local resident, expressed that as the location is a tourist area with many elderly people and children, the number of toilet stalls should be adjusted accordingly, suggesting a minimum ratio of 10 women's stalls to 9 men's stalls.
A female mainland visitor candidly stated, "It's so inconvenient here; there are too many people. Considering the large number of visitors in this tourist area, they should definitely build more toilets!" She revealed that in a large shopping mall in the tourist area, she once waited for as long as 20 minutes before entering a stall. "It was really uncomfortable; nevertheless, there was no other choice but to wait. I hope they can build more toilets!"
Komal, a female tourist from Fiji who was queuing for the toilet, saw the reporter interviewing people about the long wait and bluntly said, "I think they should build more toilets here. I've been waiting in line for a long time!" Due to the large number of people waiting, Komal had already waited for nearly 15 minutes and felt that it was extremely inconvenient for visitors. Given that Hong Kong is a popular tourist destination, she expresses her hope for the construction of additional toilets. Details like space and facilities should receive more attention when designing toilets specifically for women.
The journalist of Ta Kung Pao conducted a survey in the tourist-heavy areas with abundant big shopping malls in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. Over 40% of respondents chose Hysan Place in Causeway Bay as the most satisfactory mall toilet on Hong Kong Island. The IFC Mall (International Finance Centre) and Times Square in Causeway Bay received approximately 34% and 32% of votes, respectively. Pacific Place garnered about 22% of votes, and Sogo Department Store only received about 13%. As for toilets in major malls in Kowloon, Harbour City and K11 Musea were equally favored by both locals and tourists, each receiving a vote rate of 42%. In the New Territories, YOHO Mall boasted the most popular toilet, garnering approximately 40% of the vote.
