Temperature drops and rain expected as tropical storm Man-yi nears HK
The Hong Kong Observatory announced today (Nov. 17), that temperatures in the region will gradually decrease this week, with midweek conditions expected to bring rain and lows dropping to 19 degrees Celsius or below.
A strong northeastern monsoon is set to impact the southern coast of China later today. In addition, Tropical Storm Man-yi is projected to come within 800 kilometers of Hong Kong tonight through tomorrow morning (Nov.18), moving closer to the southern coastline. As a result of the combined effects of the northeastern monsoon and Man-yi, wind conditions are expected to intensify on Monday and Tuesday (Nov. 18 and 19), with the Observatory potentially issuing a No. 1 typhoon warning as early as Monday.
The Observatory also noted that the beginning of the week coincides with a spring tide, causing water levels to rise significantly during high evening tide. This may lead to minor flooding in low-lying coastal areas. With the influence of the northeastern monsoon and Man-yi, sea levels are anticipated to rise about 0.3 meters above the spring tide levels on Monday and Tuesday.
