Joshua Wong Chi-fung, former secretary-general of the now-disbanded group Demosisto, who is serving four years and eight months in prison in the "35+ subversion case", was arrested in prison in June last year and charged over acts between July and November 2020. He was accused of conspiring with Nathan Law Kwun-chung and others to collude with foreign or external forces to endanger national security, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 10 years at the High Court on Thursday (Nov. 5).

Speaking to reporters outside the High Court, Chief Superintendent Li Kwai-wah of the National Security Department (NSD) responded to the sentencing.

Asked by DotDotNews for the latest progress in the hunt for Law—noting that the case showed both Wong and Law were masterminds, yet Law is still on the run overseas. Li said the NSD announced in 2023 a HK$1 million reward for information leading to Law, who has fled to the United Kingdom. The charges against him include incitement to secession and collusion with foreign or external forces to endanger national security under the Hong Kong national security law. In 2024, the Secretary for Security, Tang Ping-keung, published a notice in the Gazette specifying Law as a “specified absconder”. Apart from being wanted, anyone who has financial or business dealings with him may also bear criminal liability.

Li stressed that the facts of the present case also involve Law, and appealed to him to return to Hong Kong and surrender to face the judicial process.
