Socialite Abby Choi Tin-fung was allegedly murdered in 2023, and her ex-husband, former father-in-law and former brother-in-law, are charged with murder and preventing the lawful burial of a body. Jury selection for the case was conducted by public ballot last week, with seven men and two women chosen as jurors. However, one of the jurors later applied to be excused on health grounds. Deputy Judge Brian Keith decided to discharge the jury, and fresh jury selection was held at the High Court today (Sept. 30).
The court arranged for 95 people to be drawn for the ballot this morning, fewer than the 99 who appeared in last week's selection.
The three defendants are the victim's former brother-in-law (the elder brother of her ex-husband) Anthony Kwong Kong-kit, 33, a driver; her former father-in-law Kwong Kau, 67, retired; and her former husband Alex Kwong Kong-chi, 30, unemployed. The three are charged with murdering Abby Choi in Hong Kong on 21 February 2023, and with preventing the lawful burial of her body between 21 and 23 February of that month.
