A Vietnamese man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of robbery-murder after a fellow Vietnamese female student was found dead in her home in Busan, South Korea.
Busan Central Police Station said on Aug. 28 that officers had urgently arrested the Vietnamese man on suspicion of robbery-murder and other charges.
Police said the suspect allegedly entered the home of a Vietnamese woman of the same age in Busan's Jung District at around 1:15 a.m. on Aug. 26. After she returned home, he allegedly threatened her with a weapon, restrained her mouth and hands, and killed her while taking cash from her.
According to reports, the two attended the same university in Busan and knew each other. The victim was a Vietnamese female university student studying locally.
Around noon that day, a friend went to check on her after being unable to contact her and found her body in the bathroom before alerting police.
The suspect was injured during the incident and later sought medical treatment at a hospital in Sasang District, Busan. Police tracked him down using surveillance footage and other clues and arrested him at the hospital at around 6:15 p.m. that day.
South Korean media, citing his initial statement to police, reported that his motive was that he "needed money."
