A shocking case of a suspect attacking officers and attempting to escape custody unfolded recently at Columbiana County Courthouse in Ohio, US. A 20-year-old male suspect, sentenced to one year in prison in court, broke his handcuffs with his bare hands during escort and launched a series of attacks on multiple bailiffs in an attempt to flee. He was ultimately taken down by a taser near the courthouse exit by other bailiffs. The incident left two bailiffs with fractures, and the suspect is currently being held at Columbiana County Jail pending transfer to a state prison. He faces additional felony charges including assaulting a police officer, escape, and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred on Sept. 14 after a sentencing hearing. The 20-year-old suspect, Timothy Reaggle, was sentenced to one year in prison and was being escorted to a holding cell by bailiffs. CCTV footage from the scene shows Reaggle initially walking in front of a bailiff before suddenly breaking his handcuffs, turning around, and delivering a heavy punch to the bailiff's throat. The bailiff collapsed on the spot, and Reaggle then bolted. Those present were momentarily stunned and unable to react in time. As Reaggle ran towards the stairwell, he was pulled down by bailiffs chasing from behind, causing him to slip. But he quickly scrambled to his feet and immediately threw another punch, striking a bailiff attempting to corner him from below in the face. Although other men at the scene tried to grab and block him, Reaggle managed to break free.
Reaggle sprinted towards the courthouse exit. Just as he was about to escape, he was struck by a Taser deployed by backup bailiffs arriving from behind and fell to the ground, after which everyone rushed forward to fully subdue him. The incident left two bailiffs with fractures, one of whom was bleeding from the head. After receiving medical treatment, they have since been discharged and are recovering at home.
