According to Xinhua News Agency, on Sept. 8 Beijing time, in the fourth round of the women's singles at the 2026 US Open, Chinese player Zheng Qinwen defeated six-time Grand Slam champion and Polish star Iga Swiatek in straight sets to advance to the quarter-finals.
With this victory, Zheng Qinwen matched her best-ever performance at the US Open. She previously reached the women's singles quarter-finals at the US Open in both 2023 and 2024. In this year's quarter-finals, Zheng Qinwen will face the winner between second seed Elena Rybakina and Japanese star Naomi Osaka.
In the first set, Zheng Qinwen once again staged a remarkable comeback, rallying from 0-5 down to win 7-5.
When asked how she managed to turn the match around after falling 0-5 behind on two occasions, Zheng Qinwen said: "I focused on every single point, played better and better, and found my rhythm. Sometimes I even forgot the score. I don't think the 0-5 comeback was just luck."
