Several netizens claimed that on Aug. 28 and 29, children developed symptoms of suspected food poisoning, such like vomiting, diarrhoea and fever, after eating at Cafe de Coral's Guangzhou Panyu TEEMALL store. One child was taken to hospital and transferred to the ICU, and some parents said Salmonella was detected in their children's stool samples.

Authorities including the Panyu District Market Supervision Administration and the Panyu District Centre for Disease Control and Prevention have begun handling the case. On the evening of September 5, Guangzhou Cafe de Coral Foods Limited issued a statement, offering its sincerest apologies to affected consumers and their families.

A person in charge said that as of Sept. 4, 14 people had fallen ill, with 12 hospitalised. The initial suspicion is that egg ingredients may have been contaminated. The company said it has cooperated fully with investigations, during which relevant departments sampled personnel, the environment, and related food items. Pending the final findings, the company has suspended operations at the affected store.
