On Aug 13, affected by continuous heavy rainfall and surging inflow from upstream, a breach occurred on the eastern embankment of the Jialu River beneath the Xinbeihuan Bridge in Chuanhui District, Zhoukou City, Henan Province.
After the emergency broke out, multiple rescue forces arrived at the scene to carry out urgent breach-closure operations. As of 11:00 am on August 15, over 70 metres of the breach had been sealed.
Currently, river water from the Jialu River is still flowing through the breach from north to south into Zhoukou's central urban area. The local flood control situation remains severe, and the entire city of Zhoukou has entered an emergency flood control period.
Multiple roads in the urban area have reported waterlogging, and some residential compounds have been flooded. A total of 670 metres of embankment is planned to be completed today, with construction expected to finish this evening, in a bid to minimize the impact of flood overflow on residents' lives.
