Plenty of people find it difficult to adapt to a new life after emigrating, which can lead to physical and mental exhaustion or even illness. A Hong Kong mother who had emigrated to the UK and was suspected of having suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) made the resolute decision to return to Hong Kong before her condition worsened, saying, "At the very least, we must have health and happiness in life and in the future."

The mother posted on the social media platform Threads to say goodbye to her life in the UK, writing, "37 days left until leaving the UK." She had already sorted out her work, arranged her daughter's schooling, and was working hard to clear out and move out of their home in the UK. She noted that every stage of life brings different considerations, and at this stage, she and her family felt that returning to Hong Kong would be more suitable.

She revealed that she had previously suffered from PTSD, which was why she had already been thinking about returning to Hong Kong a year ago. "Everyone's experiences are different; every place has its pros and cons. At the very least, we must have health and happiness in life and in the future. Now I do feel that I have had PTSD." She chose to return, saying, "I have a job and family in Hong Kong," so she felt very reassured.

Her decision to return drew ridicule and sarcasm from some who shared her path, but she brushed it off lightly.

"I've passed the age of caring what strangers say.... If I assume I'll live to 60, I'm already past halfway; I don't have much time left in life. Health and happiness are what matter. It's fine as long as you find a life that suits you."

Some netizens supported her decision to return.

"If you've lived abroad, you know it's really nothing special. It's just that many Hong Kong people who have never lived overseas think foreign countries are wonderful and perfect." "Actually, it's natural. Those who were adamant about staying in Hong Kong and refusing to leave from the very beginning are mostly people who have studied abroad or lived overseas before. You only really know what it's like after you've lived abroad."
