As the saying goes, "Day's thought, night's dream." Worried about losing her job, a Hong Kong woman who moved to the UK posted on social media that she dreamed her bank account was nearly empty, admitting, "I was pretty scared."
In reality, Hongkongers are not particularly sought after when they immigrate to the UK; only low-level jobs await them. The woman posted in the Facebook group "UK Hongkongers Work Support Group" about how important money is, to the point that she had several nights of nightmares.
"A few nights ago, I dreamed my account was almost out of money—it really freaked me out."
In real life, the woman, who works a menial job, recounted with lingering fear that everything in life costs money, so she really treasures her job.
"Luckily, in the real world, I have a job and an income. Even though it's just a grunt job, it lets me taste the sweetness of payday and understand the importance of having work. The worst part is that I have so many garden improvement projects I want to do—they all cost money too, which makes me appreciate my job even more."
Other Hong Kong immigrants in the UK left comments competing over who had it worse.
"Actually, you're lucky; at least you have a job. I've been looking for over a year and still haven't found one. It's pretty depressing." "I injured my knee and haven't worked for over ten days; I probably need to rest more. No income sucks!" "I thought working in a warehouse would be okay because I didn't want to use my brain, but my friends say the physical toll is unimaginable—I wake up in pain at night, they don't let you stop, and most people can't handle it."
