Young people from Hong Kong who have emigrated to the UK now feel like they have been "sacrificed." A Hong Kong woman who moved to the UK posted online, asking, "Who keeps saying that (one's life in) the UK is great and happy?"

According to the woman, she had no choice at the time and could only follow her family in emigrating. However, finding a job there was difficult, and even when she did, she was scheduled for only three hours a week. On top of that, she hasn't got a driving license yet, and she lamented, "The happiness index in the UK is zero."

Trapped in this predicament, the Hong Kong woman posted on social media, asking, "Who keeps saying that (one's life in) the UK is great and happy? Apart from big houses and good air, what actual benefits does the UK have?" She flatly rejected the so-called talk of freedom and also made it clear that because she has no money, she cannot return to Hong Kong.

"Don't talk to me about 'freedom'; it's useless. And don't say, 'Then why don't you go back to Hong Kong?' I'm too poor to do that."

As the saying goes, there's no way to tell the disadvantage without a comparison. "I work a week for less time than I used to work in a single day in Hong Kong—just three hours. And I still haven't got my driving license, which means that my family members have to give me a ride to my office. Back in Hong Kong, although the hourly wage might be lower, I enjoyed my work and my life."

The woman also mentioned that emigration was her family's decision, not her own choice.

"I was only 16 when we left, and I followed my family; I had no choice... I'm in a small town about an hour's drive from Birmingham, and it's really difficult to find a job."

She complained that she had been trying hard to find work, but without a driving license, it is very inconvenient.

"I work at Pizza Hut. Because I haven't passed my driving test, my family has to drive me, so I have to get my license before looking for other jobs."

Her post received agreement from many others in the same situation.

"Nine and a half out of ten HR people in the UK are totally irrational. From the initial CV screening to interviews and final decisions, none of it follows normal logic." "To be fair, if you really compare it with Hong Kong, each place has its pros and cons. But right now, finding a job in the UK is tough—nearly 20 people are fighting for every single position." "It'll be different once you get your license! If I didn't have a driving license, I would never have considered coming to the UK, because life here would be impossible."
