Tropical Storm Maysak made landfall on Hainan Island yesterday evening (3 July) and entered the Beibu Gulf in the early hours of today (4 July), moving away from Hong Kong. The Observatory cancelled all tropical cyclone warning signals at 3:20 am today and subsequently issued the Strong Monsoon Signal. The Observatory forecasts that Hong Kong will experience strong southeast winds, with average speeds exceeding 40 kilometres per hour and occasional gale-force gusts.
In a special weather alert issued at 5:22 am today, the Observatory stated that due to the southeast monsoon associated with a ridge of high pressure, strong winds will affect offshore areas and high ground early today, with occasionally heavy rain, thunder squalls, and violent gusts. As there will be swells at sea, members of the public are advised to stay away from the shoreline, cease all water activities, and remain vigilant.
