From last night (June 16) through the early hours of today (June 17), the Hong Kong Police Force, together with multiple government departments and relevant organizations, successfully conducted a large-scale inter-departmental counter-terrorism security exercise at Hong Kong International Airport and in Tung Chung.
The exercise, codenamed "SECUREWALL," was carried out smoothly to prepare for major international conferences to be held in Hong Kong later this year.
The exercise also serves as a two-year anniversary exercise for the Hong Kong Airport Management Authority, codenamed "CARCANET."
The exercise was held on the eve of an international conference. Delegations arriving from around the world were coming into Hong Kong, and there was a scenario in the airport passenger terminal building involving armed terrorists attacking members of the public and placing suspicious items.
Meanwhile, near Tung Chung, a large shopping mall experienced consecutive violent attacks by an attacker with a knife against passers-by, along with a large-scale power outage. Multiple departments and organizations promptly activated emergency response mechanisms to deal with the incidents.
A total of more than 1,400 personnel from multiple government departments and relevant organizations participated, including the Hong Kong Police Force, Fire Services Department, Hospital Authority, Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department, Immigration Department, Civil Aviation Department, Airport Authority, and Airport Security Company Limited, among others.
Mr. Chow Yat-ming, Commissioner of Police, attended to inspect the exercise and praised the professional performance and collaboration of all participating units.
