The Secretary for Security, Chris Tang, stated today (March 15) on a radio program that the world is currently in turmoil, with the Russia-Ukraine war ongoing and conflicts just emerging in the Middle East. He noted that the current threat level for terrorism in Hong Kong is moderate, indicating a risk of attacks, although there is no specific intelligence. He believes that the authorities need to remain vigilant and ensure they are fully prepared to respond to potential terrorist threats, urging citizens to report any suspicious activities.
Tang remarked that during his almost five years as the secretary, the social situation in Hong Kong had returned to relative stability. He mentioned that most young people arrested during the unrest have already been released, with only a few still serving sentences. He pointed out that many of those imprisoned were incited by fake news, false information, and social atmospherics, and are now feeling regret. Additionally, some of the young people who were arrested have yet to be prosecuted. Over the past year or two, the police force has launched special initiatives to provide these individuals with better opportunities through positive activities. He expressed understanding that young people's intentions are generally good and just, but they have been exploited, urging them to think critically and consider their families and society more.
