What if all electronic devices stopped working tomorrow? How long could you last?
We asked that question – along with others about AI, apps, and technology – to foreigners on the streets of Hong Kong.
On artificial intelligence, opinions varied widely. A music artist was unconvinced, "AI doesn't really have that much creativity to make songs nowadays." A team leader was even more confident, "My job is to lead people – it's hard to see AI replace who I am." Others took a more relaxed view, comparing AI to "cruise control in a car" – helpful, but not a replacement.
When asked about their most-used apps, the answers were just as diverse: Instagram for work, WhatsApp for messaging, Slack for team communication, and even ChatGPT has become a daily essential for some.
So does technology make life easier or more stressful? A mixed verdict. "Definitely easier," one said. But another drew a sharp comparison, "I see social media like smoking – it can be negative." "Too many notifications, too much pressure."
Then the question about a world without electronics. One person shrugged it off, "I can last forever – just give me air conditioning." Another recalled a real experience, "I've had my phone stolen. After about an hour, I'm useless." A third guessed "three to four weeks," while someone else joked, "Maybe a hundred years."
Let's hear what they had to say.
