Mother's Day is just around the corner, and our reporter went to Central Pier to ask people a simple question: how do you celebrate your mum—and what do you want to tell her today? For many, the answers are delightfully familiar. Flowers remain the most popular choice, often paired with a card, chocolates, fruit, or something practical that she can use in everyday life. Some interviewees said they usually make handmade cards, while others admitted they haven't decided yet.
Not everyone is planning an expensive gift. A few told us that budgets can be tight—especially during a trip—but they still want to make the day meaningful, even if it's just waking up early to say, "I love you," and "Thank you for being a great mum."
When asked to describe their mothers, people spoke with warmth and honesty: "like sunshine," "caring," "easygoing," sometimes strict—yet always someone they look up to. Many also smiled as they recalled mum's classic reminders: be safe, take care of yourself, don't do anything silly—but learn from your mistakes. From children to adults, the messages at Central Pier were heartfelt and clear: Mother's Day is a reminder to say what we often leave unsaid—and to cherish our mums while we still can.
