In the taxi crash that mounted the pavement in Ngau Tau Kok last Wednesday, a 31-year-old female victim succumbed to her injuries yesterday afternoon (May 18), raising the death toll to two.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of May 13, when a taxi carrying passengers was traveling down the "long steep slope" on Chun Wah Road near Choi Ha Road in Ngau Tau Kok. The taxi reportedly lost control, crossed a pedestrian crossing, mounted the pavement, and crashed into a stone barrier of a sitting-out area. Two female pedestrians were struck and seriously injured. A 38-year-old woman had both her legs crushed and died after being rushed to the hospital that day. The other victim, a 31-year-old woman, had her right leg crushed. She had been receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and was pronounced dead at around 5:30 pm yesterday, bringing the death toll from the crash to two. The 70-year-old male taxi driver sustained chest injuries and was conscious when taken to United Christian Hospital for treatment. The driver claimed brake failure and was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
