A fire broke out in the Shinsaibashi area of Osaka, Japan. The incident occurred at approximately 7:10 am local time this morning (May 18). The fire started in a three-story building near Dotonbori in Shinsaibashi and subsequently spread to four surrounding buildings, sending thick plumes of smoke into the sky. Local firefighters arrived on the scene and largely extinguished the blaze; no casualties have been reported so far.
The fire broke out in Osaka's busiest downtown area, which was crowded with tourists. At the time of the incident, local residents reported hearing a loud "boom," followed by smoke billowing from the building. Within five minutes, the street was filled with smoke. According to the Osaka Municipal Fire Department, the fire covered an area of approximately 350 square meters. About 40 fire trucks were dispatched, and the fire was extinguished after about 2.5 hours. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
