According to official determination by the China Earthquake Networks Center, a magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck at 12:21 am on May 18 in Liunan District, Liuzhou City, Guangxi (latitude 24.38°N, longitude 109.26°E), with a focal depth of 8 kilometers.

The observatory reported that more than ten citizens in Hong Kong contacted the observatory to report feeling the earthquake, with shaking lasting several seconds. The Liuzhou City Earthquake Rescue Command Center released a situation report stating that as of 4 am, 13 houses had collapsed, four people had been sent to the hospital—none with life-threatening injuries—three people were reported missing, and over 7,000 residents had been evacuated. Communications, power supply, water supply, gas supply, and transportation roads in the affected area remain in normal operation.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the China Earthquake Administration has activated a Level III emergency response for the magnitude 5.2 earthquake in Liunan District, Liuzhou City, Guangxi.

Following the earthquake, officials from the China Earthquake Administration immediately deployed emergency response efforts, held video conferences with the China Earthquake Networks Center and the Earthquake Administration of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and instructed relevant units to strengthen earthquake monitoring, tracking, and assessment, conduct rolling consultations, assess local damage, and report the situation promptly.

It is reported that the Office of the State Council Earthquake Relief Command has dispatched a working group to Guangxi to guide emergency response efforts.
