Trendy watch brand Swatch has surprised the market with a collaboration with Swiss luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet (AP), launching the new "Royal Pop" timepiece, which has triggered a buying frenzy worldwide, with chaos and conflicts breaking out at multiple stores across the globe. Swatch later stated that the Royal Pop series will remain on sale for several months, urging people not to flood stores in large numbers over a short period just to rush to purchase the collection.
According to foreign media reports on May 17, after the collaborative watch went on sale in multiple European and American countries on May 16, chaos and conflicts erupted at numerous stores. At a store in Paris, France, a clash broke out that day, resulting in damage to a metal shutter door and two security doors. The incident involved over 300 people, and police later fired tear gas outside the store to quell the unrest.
Similar chaos occurred in the UK and Italy, with fistfights breaking out outside Swatch stores in Manchester and Milan. Unable to handle the disorder, Swatch's stores in Manchester and Liverpool were forced to suspend operations the day after the new watch went on sale.
