Today (April 5) is Qingming Festival, and the Hong Kong Observatory has forecasted cloudy skies with occasional showers and thunderstorms, including heavy rain in some areas. Citizens are advised to stay updated on weather changes before heading out.
At 9:55 a.m., the Observatory issued a special weather advisory, stating that a strong thunderstorm band located south of HK is gradually approaching the Pearl River Estuary. It is expected that the next couple of hours will bring heavy rain and occasional thunderstorms to some parts of HK.
The Observatory explained that a low-pressure trough would continue to bring showers and thunderstorms to the coastal areas of Guangdong today. It is forecasted that the low-pressure trough will weaken by Monday, bringing clearer weather for the early to mid-week period.
A prevailing easterly flow will influence the region mid-week, and as an upper-level anticyclone strengthens, the weather in Guangdong is expected to improve later in the week, with hot and sunny days.
