On Feb. 28, the US and Israel launched a joint military strike on Iran, sharply escalating the regional situation. Multiple Iranian media outlets confirmed on March 1 that Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei was killed in the US-Israeli attack.
According to the Iranian Mehr News Agency on March 1, the Iranian government issued a statement regarding Khamenei's martyrdom, promising to ensure that the enemy would "pay a painful price" with "all its strength and determination." The statement declared a nationwide mourning period of 40 days, with public institutions shutting down for 7 days.
On Feb. 28, the White House released photos of Trump monitoring the operations against Iran, with US Secretary of State Rubio sitting beside him. The White House Press Secretary stated that Trump was closely following the developments with members of the National Security Team at Mar-a-Lago throughout the night. Additionally, Secretary Vance and cabinet members held a meeting in the White House Situation Room. On the same day, Trump posted on social media, stating that Khamenei was "dead" and confirming that US and Israeli bombings of Iran would continue.
