Today (Feb. 22), the sixth day of the Chinese New Year, marks the final day of the extended holiday period, with large numbers of Hong Kong residents who traveled overseas or to the mainland returning through various border control points. The Immigration Department has predicted that today would be the peak return day. At the West Kowloon high-speed rail station, the arrival hall was crowded with people, including many families pushing luggage through the gates.
According to Immigration Department figures, yesterday saw 694,000 arrivals, of which 475,000 were Hong Kong residents. The Lo Wu control point recorded the highest number of arrivals with 122,000, followed by the Shenzhen Bay and Lok Ma Chau control points with 106,000 and 104,000, respectively. The West Kowloon high-speed rail station recorded 81,000 arrivals.
For departures, yesterday recorded 548,000 people leaving Hong Kong, including 313,000 Hong Kong residents and 200,000 mainland visitors.
