During the trial of Jimmy Lai's case, external forces have been manipulating public opinion—from intimidating judges to playing the "sympathy card"—in an attempt to pressure Hong Kong's judiciary into submission. Jimmy Lai's daughter, Claire Lai, continues to recycle false claims, such as solitary confinement, and has recently made yet another absurd allegation. She now claims that Jimmy Lai is "covered head to toe in a thick black cloth" wherever he goes—a statement that is nothing short of preposterous.
On Jan. 20, the Correctional Services Department issued a strong rebuke against the repeated lies and false accusations from Claire Lai, emphasizing that her claims are entirely unfounded and maliciously defamatory.
The department clarified that Jimmy Lai's legal representatives have not lodged any complaints regarding his detention arrangements. It further stressed that the facility strictly adheres to legal requirements, ensuring that all detainees are provided with a secure, safe, humane, appropriate, and healthy detention environment.
