Jimmy Lai, the founder of Next Media, was found guilty last month of "conspiracy to collude with foreign forces" and "conspiracy to publish seditious publications." On Jan. 12, the West Kowloon Court (acting in place of the High Court) began handling Lai's plea alongside the pleas of eight other guilty defendants, with the process expected to take four days.
Lai's children, foreign politicians, and international media have been perpetuating false claims about his health to mislead the public, intentionally creating a tragic image of Lai to manipulate public opinion and pressure the Hong Kong court, while obscuring the truth of Lai's numerous wrongdoings and his conviction by the court.
Even though the Hong Kong SAR government has repeatedly emphasized and clarified that the local correctional department has always placed great importance on the safety and health of incarcerated individuals, adhering to the principle of equality regardless of the identity, age, or nationality of the inmates, and has been committed to providing a safe, humane, appropriate, and healthy custody environment, including timely and suitable medical support, there has been no discrimination in handling Lai's detention arrangements. However, the smear campaigns from external forces continue unabated.
