Jimmy Lai, founder of Next Digital, who was convicted of two counts of "conspiracy to collude with foreign or external forces to endanger national security" and one count of "conspiracy to publish seditious publications," recently had his daughter, Claire Lai, meet with Brian Mast, Chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, and former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Both Mast and Pelosi posted photos of the meeting on their social media platforms, expressing support for Jimmy Lai.
In an interview with Wen Wei Po on Jan. 15, Hong Kong political figures criticized the US politicians for openly supporting Jimmy Lai. They pointed out that Jimmy Lai's crimes of colluding with foreign forces and destabilizing Hong Kong are supported by irrefutable evidence. Instead of urging her father to repent, his daughter has colluded with American politicians in an attempt to interfere with Hong Kong's judiciary. Such actions are doomed to fail and will be scorned by patriotic citizens of Hong Kong.
