Jimmy Lai, founder of Next Digital, who was convicted of two counts of "conspiracy to collude with foreign or external forces to endanger national security" and one count of "conspiracy to publish seditious publications," recently had his daughter, Claire Lai, meet with Brian Mast, Chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee, and former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Mast and Pelosi shared photos of the meeting on their social media platforms, demonstrating their support for Jimmy Lai.
In an interview with Wen Wei Po on Jan. 15, Hong Kong political figures criticized the US politicians for openly supporting Jimmy Lai. They emphasized that irrefutable evidence supports Jimmy Lai's crimes of colluding with foreign forces and destabilizing Hong Kong. Rather than calling for her father's repentance, his daughter has joined forces with American politicians to meddle in Hong Kong's judiciary. Patriotic citizens of Hong Kong will doom such actions to failure and scorn them.
