British consultancy firm Henley & Partners recently released the 2026 Henley Passport Index, which ranks 199 countries and regions based on visa-free access to 227 travel destinations. The results indicate that Singapore retains the top spot, while Japan and South Korea tie for second place. Denmark, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland share third place with visa-free access to 186 destinations.
According to the ranking, Hong Kong passport holders enjoy visa-free access to 171 countries and regions, climbing to 15th place globally in the latest ranking, up three spots from last year. The Immigration Department notes on its official website that Hong Kong residents currently enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival arrangements in 174 countries and regions.
Historical data reveals that Hong Kong's passport ranking once climbed to 13th place in 2006 but remained stagnant between 18th and 19th after 2019. The return to 15th place can be considered a significant breakthrough.
