The UNICEF "HERO RUN—PoweRun" was successfully held in Hong Kong recently. After the event, Siddharth Chatterjee, the UN Resident Coordinator in China, gave an interview and pointed out that Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) is the foundation for achieving all other sustainable development goals. Especially in an era accelerated by artificial intelligence, investing in education means investing in the shared future of humanity.
Chatterjee emphasized that Hong Kong, as an international metropolis, has become a successful development model through continuous investment in education, human capital, and infrastructure. He described Hong Kong as a "window" and "bridge" that can promote high-quality education models to the world, thanks to its excellent education system and university resources.
In the face of global educational challenges, Chatterjee specifically mentioned the opportunities for international participation provided by the United Nations volunteer system for Hong Kong youth and professionals. He encouraged more individuals to step out of their comfort zones and to share Hong Kong's professional skills and experiences globally through multi-level cooperation among the government, enterprises, and schools.
Regarding the significance of this charity run, Chatterjee highly praised the event for bringing together energy and a spirit of unity from various sectors of society. He believes that this model of community participation, which crosses age and industry, demonstrates the civic action needed to promote sustainable development and deserves to be promoted worldwide. Finally, he urged all sectors to continue investing in education and human development to build a more equitable and inclusive future together.
