The WTT Hong Kong Finals delivered a nail-biting men's singles clash tonight (Dec. 10) at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom. Chinese national team ace Wang Chuqin faced a formidable challenge from Japan's rising star Matsushima Sora. Despite falling into a 0-2 deficit, Wang staged an incredible comeback, battling through seven grueling games to secure a 4-3 victory (6-11, 9-11, 11-4, 12-14, 12-10, 11-4, 11-9), advancing to the quarterfinals.
The match began with Matsushima quickly finding his form, launching aggressive attacks to claim the first two games. In the opening game, Matsushima built a commanding 7-3 lead and held off Wang's attempts to close the gap, winning 11-6. The second game saw Matsushima race to a 3-0 start, and he capitalized on crucial points late in the game to take it 11-9, extending his lead to 2-0.
With his back against the wall, Wang Chuqin awakened in the third game, opening with a 4-0 run and dominating to win 11-4. However, the fourth game saw the intensity skyrocket as both players fought fiercely. Trailing 2-5, Wang clawed his way back to tie the score at 5-5. Later, facing a seemingly insurmountable 5-10 deficit, Wang saved five consecutive game points to level the score at 10-10. The game extended into a dramatic deuce battle, with both players exchanging blows until Matsushima narrowly edged it 14-12, pushing Wang to the brink with a 1-3 deficit.
Wang Chuqin, now in a do-or-die situation, showcased immense composure in the fifth game. After trailing 2-5, he rallied to level the score and clinched the game 12-10 after a tense 9-9 tie. Riding the momentum, Wang surged in the sixth game, dominating Matsushima 11-4 to force a decisive seventh game.
In the final game, both players were neck and neck, battling from 3-3 to 5-5. But in the crucial moments, Wang Chuqin held his nerve and scored consecutive points to seal an 11-9 victory, completing an incredible comeback.
