The WTT Hong Kong Finals continued today (Dec. 10) at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom, delivering yet another evening of exciting matches. In one of the most highly anticipated women's singles clashes, defending champion Wang Manyu of China faced off against Japan's rising star Harimoto Miwa. The match was a nail-biting five-game showdown, with Wang Manyu narrowly edging out her opponent 3-2 thanks to her superior performance in the critical moments, securing a spot in the next round.
In the opening game, Wang Manyu quickly found her rhythm and took the lead. Although Harimoto managed to level the score at 5-5, Wang Manyu maintained her composure and closed out the game 11-6. The second game was a fierce tug-of-war, with both players locked in a close contest from 1-1 to 6-6. However, Wang Manyu kept her focus in the latter stages, clinching the game 11-8 to extend her lead to 2-0.
The turning point of the match came in the third game, where both players delivered an intense performance. Wang Manyu initially surged ahead with a 7-3 lead, but Harimoto fought back valiantly to tie the score at 8-8. The game entered a heated back-and-forth from 9-9 to 11-11, before Harimoto seized the critical points to win 13-11 and pull one back.
Riding the momentum, Harimoto came out strong in the fourth game, racing to a 5-0 lead. Despite Wang Manyu's efforts to close the gap, Harimoto held firm and took the game 11-9, forcing a decisive fifth game.
In the deciding game, Wang Manyu regrouped and stormed to an early 4-0 advantage. Yet, Harimoto once again displayed incredible resilience, leveling the score at 4-4 and later tying it at 6-6. In the crucial moments, Wang Manyu rose to the occasion, increasing the quality of her attacks to secure the game 11-7, and with it, a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
