The No. 5 fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po on November 26 resulted in severe casualties. As of yesterday (Nov. 30) at 4 pm, the death toll has risen to 146, including several foreign domestic workers. The Consulate General of Indonesia in Hong Kong stated today (Dec. 1) in response to media inquiries that, as of yesterday, nine Indonesian domestic workers have been confirmed dead, one is hospitalized, and 36 are missing.
The Indonesian Consulate General communicated with the families of the victims to ensure that their rights are upheld under the law and is assisting in arranging the processes for repatriating the remains of the deceased to Indonesia.
The consulate confirmed that it is closely coordinating with the Hong Kong Police Force, other local authorities, and relevant organizations, including the identification of nationals who are still uncontacted or missing. Furthermore, the consulate noted that there are illegal entities taking advantage of the Taipo fire to conduct fraudulent activities, and thus urges Indonesian citizens to remain vigilant and only trust reliable sources of information, including official announcements from the consulate and relevant local authorities.
