On the afternoon of Nov. 26, a No. 5 alarm fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, resulting in severe casualties. Disaster Victim Identification Unit (DVIU) personnel continued their search at the fire scene today (Nov. 30), where several suspected bodies were successively discovered.
Following the fire, multiple tents were set up in the basketball court opposite Wang Fuk Court. DVIU members, dressed in white suits, had gathered there before 9 a.m., assisting each other as they entered the disaster site one by one. A second group of personnel subsequently arrived at Wang Shing House. Around 10:45 a.m., what were suspected to be human remains, wrapped in body bags, were carried away by teams of four to five people. Further remains were later removed, and teams also proceeded to various floors to collect evidence.
As of 3:00 p.m. yesterday (Nov. 29), the incident had resulted in 128 fatalities and 83 injuries. Police have confirmed the identities of 84 deceased individuals. Thirty-seven injured persons have been reported as missing, 44 deceased individuals remain unclaimed, and 150 residents are still unaccounted for.
