On the afternoon of Nov. 26, a No. 5 alarm fire broke out at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po, resulting in severe casualties. The Consulate General of Indonesia in Hong Kong responded to media inquiries today (Nov. 30), stating that as of yesterday (Nov. 29), seven Indonesian domestic helpers have been confirmed deceased, with three others injured, one of whom has already been discharged from the hospital. The Consulate General indicated that it has made contact with the families of the victims and is assisting with the procedures for repatriating their remains to Indonesia.
According to estimates from the Consulate General, approximately 140 Indonesian citizens reside and work in the Wang Fok Court residential area. As of Saturday (Nov. 29) evening, the consulate has confirmed the whereabouts of 86 individuals, while 45 remain unaccounted for. Among the victims of the fire, seven deceased individuals were Indonesian citizens, all of whom were domestic helpers. Additionally, three Indonesian citizens were injured in the fire, one of whom is now out of danger, while the other two remain hospitalized.
The Consulate General stated that it has implemented multiple measures to assist Indonesian citizens, including setting up a temporary shelter at the consulate and establishing an assistance station in Tai Po. During this period, consulate staff have also visited shelters and hospitals in the affected areas to verify information on Indonesian citizens, directly engage with affected individuals, and distribute aid supplies such as food and hygiene products.
