The No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po on Nov. 26 caused significant casualties. According to government officials, out of the initial missing cases, 144 individuals have been confirmed safe. However, 150 individuals remain uncontactable.
This afternoon (Nov. 29), government officials, including Deputy Chief Secretary for Administration Cheuk Wing-hing, Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs Alice Mak, Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun, Regional Commander for New Territories North Lam Man-han, and Chief Superintendent Tsang Shuk-yin, who heads the Casualty Enquiry Centre, visited the fire scene. The officials inspected the site, assessed the situation, and provided updates to the media.
Tsang said that the Hong Kong Police Force established a casualty enquiry unit on the night of the fire, opening 10 hotline numbers (1878999) to assist the public in locating missing family members and friends.
As of 3 p.m. today, the fire has claimed 128 lives and injured 83 people. Among the casualties, 84 deceased and 37 injured individuals have been identified as those previously reported missing. However, 44 deceased victims are still awaiting identification.
Tsang further reported that out of the initial missing person cases, 144 individuals have been confirmed safe. However, 150 individuals remain uncontactable. Of these, 100 cases involve incomplete or vague information, and the police are working to contact affected families one by one.
