The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government has announced that it will issue HK$10,000 in emergency relief funds to each family affected by the catastrophic fire at Wang Fuk Court. Starting next week, an additional HK$50,000 in living allowances will be distributed to assist the impacted households. Many residents visited a nearby school set up as a registration center to inquire about the aid process.
Some residents shared that they had already received the HK$10,000 emergency subsidy and praised the government for its quick response, while some residents from Wang Tai House stated that they registered for the emergency subsidy on Nov. 28 and are awaiting further notification. They expressed relief, noting that the total HK$60,000 in government assistance will help them purchase daily necessities and address immediate needs.
Meanwhile, it was reported that no residents remain sheltered at the nearby Kwong Fuk Commercial Centre. Aid supplies previously placed on platforms outside the mall for residents to collect have largely been cleared.
A volunteer noted that around 5 a.m. yesterday (Nov. 28), the police responded to a noise complaint and requested volunteers to remove the aid materials, which will be donated to non-profit organizations. One volunteer remarked that clearing out the supplies is a positive sign, as it indicates that relevant departments are now addressing residents' needs and allows volunteers to rest.
Police have cordoned off parts of the Kwong Fuk Estate platform, where cleaners were seen washing the area. Below the platform, an aid station run by a migrant worker organization still houses a significant amount of supplies.
